Thats a pretty good point. But After some research I found they trademarked the phrase "THE Container store" not Container Store.

As posted above, "RoomStore" is trademarked, however.

Just picked up a 3.4GHz i7 with 8GB of RAM from the Apple Store. I took it home and installed a 256GB SSD to replace the hard drive inside. Installing the OS now. I'll post Geekbench numbers soon.

    Ethan

Just ran this. My score was 11810.

I haven't been to an Apple Store in ages so forgive me for asking but what kind of dock is that in the lower right? I'm sure it is a display designed only for the stores but is it actually a working dock as well?

    interesting.

    definately a cool dock!

I wish they would use AMD processors as a way to get around this problem with intel and ati. We would benefit from AMD's gpu's and a better price for the end user. Flame away.

I would also prefer AMD, but I don't think there will be Llanos low-powered enough for the MBA.

Look at the Zacate E-350. It's 18W, and CPU-wise it's at a dual core Atom level.
OK, it's bulk 40nm, and Llano is 32nm SOI, but the quad mobile Llano I've seen is supposed to be 45W. MBAs are at 10W and 17W.

Llano is still a Stars+ core. Maybe next year with Bulldozer Fusion.

And I'm honestly kind of impressed that the MacBook Pro still doesn't give you an option to buy one without a DVD drive; I have a 2011 MBP and I swear, it doesn't get any use whatsoever. Apple's obsession with using every square millimeter of space on a portable device apparently ends when it comes to optical disk drives on MBPs.

It doesn't happen because what they should really be putting is Blu-Ray.

Haha, you're funny. I'm no fan of the Xbox, but you've got to be kidding if you think Nintendo is ever really going to kill Sony/MS. Nintendo may have sold the most consoles, but most main virtually unused, cos the Wii is woefully under-powered, propped up by the same old kiddy franchises and once you get past the new gimmicks gets boring fast.

Apparently, this is related to AT&T only and it is not based on GPS location services but rather a database of cell towers. It contains no identifiable information and is sent to AT&T for analysis for signal strength statistics.

Since it does not contain personal information and is being used to analyze the state of the AT&T network, I don't see a problem here. People who are not inside of the US are not affected by this.

So why does it track the cell tower in the UK as well then? Click 2. Video (http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/)

Ok this makes no real sense to I figure Apple is behind it. Merantz and Denon both have upgrade and both same price. Are they for real, come on Airplay upgrade WTF. I smell Apple crazy behind it.

I guess its a software upgrade to their internal chip, but I still think its stupid, if your going to buy a 1000 plus receiver this is just dam bad PR to me.

Can't remember where, but I seem to remember reading that Apple were charging around $5 for AirPlay licensing, which makes the $40 seem even more of a rip-off. You'd think that they'd adsorb even the $5, seems like a small price to pay to make your device more desirable to all the iOS and iTunes users out there.

With all the programming and money toward the Sony owned rights, etc., the tech isn't worth it in a computer except to a small percentage.
I agree. Blu-ray is nice, but on a computer, even a 27" iMac, it's not reaching it's full potential, IMO. Besides, you can always input your PS3 to your iMac if necessary.

You are also stuck in current times. Physical media will be dead by then, everything is going to be cloud based, there will be no such thing as a physical copy of movies any more :)
What kind of media do you expect that "cloud" to store data with? Your statement delves into the realm of privacy concern.

I know what you mean, cause that quality is delicious. :)

What? You said the word Merom but didn't include a link to the guide? :p

Well anyways, if Apple could get Conroes into iMacs it would be great. A challenge I know (and I still personally think it is more likely to be a Merom iMac) but it would help to be that little bit more competitive. The rest is pretty much predictable, Merom for MBPs and eventually MacBooks and Mac Minis. Woodcrest for Mac Pro and MacServe (Macs in everything right ;) ). iMac's future is a big ?.Yeah, if they can fit a Conroe into the iMac, more power to Apple. I just hope it doesn't turn it into the blast furnace my iMac G5 was.

From what I can tell Merom is just a Conroe that can operate at a lower TDP. They're all just fabricated off the same piece of silicon. (Someone posted an image on this.)

I thought the 5G was already able to handle 640x480 movies, just couldn't display them at full resolution?

The way I understood, it was capable of playin that resolution in mp4, but not when using AVC/H.264...

same price as the old 20 Incher.

Don't bet on it. I'd say a cool $2000 for that rig. Expect the current prices to stay intact.

I just want them to bump up the Macbook so then I can go ahead and buy my fist Mac. I just want to buy it when its the most current.

Ya, that's that I'm hoping. For the same reason too. I've used macs forever, but never owned my very own (other than an old PowerMac 7500). I also hope they update the ipod soon, I want to get the latest and greatest but I need to order by wednesday :-p

Talk about "bleeding edge"....lots of complaints about video adapters not working on the Apple forums and almost nobody makes a monitor/TV with Thunderbolt I/O....yet.

Maybe there is a "tsunami" of thunderbolt devices coming....but right now the cupboard is pretty bare.

I'll wait until the "guests show up to Apple's Thunderbolt Party".....before showing up with my $$$.

How can people not understand this? You need to build the computers with the ports before the peripherals. Immediately after Apple released the MBP with Thunderbolt, the peripherals were being announced.

Did you really think the peripheral companies would line up to build stuff that can't be used on any computers?

This isn't a "chicken/egg" problem at all. It could only ever work in one direction: computer first, then peripheral.

Why? Because the computer still works, even if you don't have anything to plug into the new port.

How is anyone surprised by this?

The margins on a mid-mac should be better than the iMac since it's using standard (and therefore cheap) desktop components. So any mid-mac sales in preference to the iMac would probably make Apple more money anyway.
I want Apple to release a stupid "mid-mac" just to shut you and everyone else up.

Professionals buy Mac Pros or laptops. Consumers buy iMacs or laptops. That's a sound and successful strategy for Apple. And if you need a cheap Mac, you can buy a mini.

Just because Intel releases a chip, does not mean Apple is going to use it. If that was the case then Intel should re-release the 486, so that Apple can put them in the "mid-mac"!

As far as the streaming video possibilities go, I think it would be cool for Apple to include the ability to "project" the entire desktop onto a remote screen, like a TV or projector. The tech is already there, and I think that kind of functionality would be that much cooler and more practical than simply streaming audio/video content. I would love to use my PB's lid-closed mode wirelessly with the TV.

when closing an application in OS X is as easy as clicking an X in the top right corner let me know

even though iOS is a lot better than android some of the over simplicity is annoying on the iphone

    Exactly.

What a waste. You're failing to see the big picture. People willing to commit armed robbery don't go away quietly into the night once their done. They go on to commit more crimes, some of which might involve bodily harm to you or others.

I'm a little skeptical about Napa64 as well. I did read the previous links and articles on it. Why make Merom backwards compatible with Yonah?

What is to be skeptical about? Seriously Intel continuously improves its hardware, they have to or end up getting trounced on by the competition. In fact recent history with respect to AMD demonstrates what happens when they don't take a serious look at their hardware.

The issue with Merom and this iterations backward computability is that it gets INTEL 64 bit hardware to market fast as frankly they weren't even competing in that realm. For Intel 64 bit is serious issue as they are behind the eight ball or this one. It is an example of Intel being asleep at the wheel as they focused on who needs 64 bit instructions when a good part of the market demand was for addressable ram.

Nice information there. I wanted a little heads up on Kentsfield. Still, isn't it dual Conroe's with separate cache and then over the front side bus?

Frankly I haven't followed Kentsfield that much, more of an AMD man, but what is interesting to me with respect to this thread, is that MEROM the platform has a long way to go yet. That is the iMac just released is more or less a first generation implementation of Merom. I'm left with the impression that Apple just slapped the new processor in the old socket and gave us all a surprise this week. But that is what backward computability is all about. Mind you I know nothing about the current logic boards but I'm sure that information will float across the web soon.

    Dave
