I came across this interesting article which says that Amazon is also planning to offer movies online in its store and that it has almost finalized deals with at least 3 of the big studios.

That might be so. But Apple has lots of questionable patents as well. Is the Click-wheel REALLY an innovation worth patenting? "We have a wheel, and we have buttons. Why not conbine them?". I have just tried the sw. My shiny new iPad2 was tracked in the US but not in the UK? Is this tracking different by country to comply with local laws?

Agreed. I've never understood why macs have such large bezel's. The 11" MBA is a notable offender in particular, since because the laptop is so small, the wide bezel looks even more immense compared to the rest of the laptop.
I think it has allot to do with the need to make the edges of the case thicker for stability. Look at the Air's internals from Apple's video. It clearly shows thicker edges that likely preclude the LCD from reaching all the way over. For Apple to reduce the Bezel entirely, the case would need to be thicker overall to maintain comparable rigidity - unless they built it of something stronger than aluminum...
what is the point of an IPS screen with a low resolution? IPS is good for viewing angles but people rarely look at a laptop from extreme viewing angles. the color and contrast on the current mbp screen are pretty good right now.
I'm sorry, the IPS is very useful if you happen to be three people wide watching a movie on your monitor. I know, it's sad, but many of us do not have televisions. That being said, I notice very little difference in viewing angle fidelity from my 24" ACD with IPS and my 2008 MBP, which presumably is a TN.

I bet they think it's something really cool, something that is completely different from anything that humankind has ever used in manufacturing (I mean, I read something like "Black Liquidmetal" in this thread. Wtf?). But truth is, if you held something in your hands made of Liquid Metal you wouldn't even notice the difference between that and anything made of aluminium, steel or any other shiny metal. It may be a very exciting new material for metallurgists or chemists but the consumer will probably just notice that it is a bit more durable and scratch resistant than aluminium (if at all, more likely in direct comparison only). It's the same thing as carbon. When I bought my first bike with carbon forks I was like "Holy crap this is real carbon, I bet this will change my life forever". In fact, it was just the same. Neither did it have a special feel to it. It felt like plastic, not very trustworthy. I liked how it reduced the weight (it was 15% lighter than my old bike all in all), but seriously, it wasn't a big deal after I got used to it. It will be the same with liquid metal. It has a fancy name and everything but for the enormous price of the material it has no use for the consumer whatsoever. It will also have traces of fingerprints on it, it will also get scratchy after some time and so on. Sure, it will take a longer time till it looks used, but nobody will think "This Notebook looks really bad. But hey, if it was made of aluminium it would have looked this way like two months ago. Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.
What is it you have an aversion to?
That's what I was thinking, I thought the whole point of Thunderbolt was that it had so much throughput you could daisy chain as much stuff as you wanted without a drop in performance.
The question is, was the second thunderbolt port necessary to drive two external displays, or could you daisy chain them ad infinitum like Steve Jobs thinks you should do?

If Apple does go with the Core 2 Extreme on the Mac Pro across the line, I think they will retain the liquid cooling technology in the top end and push the chip just beyond its rated specs to 3 GHz. This will cross a major threshold for the Mac Pro line and finally deliver on that "promise" Jobs made a while back. It will also keep the Mac Pro moving forward on the GHz front, similar to the other lines.
Most likely, however, Apple will employ Woodcrest across the entire line of Mac Pros and XServes for economies of scale and volume discounts. Apple's advertising will not promote GHz, obviously, but will still focus on the "3x faster" and post some impressive benchmark figures.
I also believe the Mac Pro will include some additional "new" or landmark technologies, simply because it's been so long in the making and Apple's stock has been taking a beating lately. Perhaps they will include Blu-Ray capability or some other "wow" technology that we hadn't foreseen. I think Apple needs to make a big splash with the Mac Pro.
Also, since Apple has like $7 billion in the bank, can someone tell me why they don't spend a few hundred million dollars on a really powerful Mac ad campaign? I know they're advertising now, but it's not anywhere near what it should be -- it's just token advertising. We need Apple to saturate the media, and do really hard-hitting ads. Now is the time, especially if Microsoft is going to steal any thunder from the iPod this Christmas. Apple has put too many eggs into its iPod basket, and it hasn't focused much on promoting the Mac in a serious, powerful way.

Cloud storage already exists. Look at dropbox, amazon, wuala, Carbonite. Lots of stuff which can handle user files and media already. Again, the person I quoted was talking about things in 2016, so quite possible for things to change by then.
He was talking about the fact that "Cloud storage" uses physical media. ;) The cloud is not some kind of magic thing, it's just a bunch of physical disks and servers. And those disks and servers aren't anything special either, they are your typical server computer and the disks are also your standard server based disk, grouped up in a volume manager over massive raid arrays.

Not simultaneous control like AirTunes. You can stream to multiple computers, but it will need to be controlled separately -- as far as I know.
I can't think of a good reason to stream strictly audio to multiple computers, even if each is connected to speakers. Seems very clumsy to me, and you'd be better off getting an Airport Express ($69 refurbished (http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB321LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY)) for each speaker system or getting AirPlay-supported speakers.
WiFi2HiFi (http://www.wifi2hifi.com) takes the AirTunes idea beyond iTunes, however, it's only to an iDevice, not a computer.

Apple is starting to be less and less inovative. The iPhone UI hardly changes for the last 4 years. But hey, lets sue everybody.:rolleyes:

He means CUT and paste hence the caps. Not copy. i.e. The text you select is both deleted and copied to the clipboard. I use it a lot myself in Windows and do miss it in OSX. Also allows you to easily move files around by CUT and pasting them :D

I am for this app and I used to assist Local Law Enforcement at these types of events as a Vol. Emergency Management officer.
The fact of the matter is that while they remove some drunks off the road the Vast majority of tickets are for seatbelt, insurance, registration, and other minor factors. My Wife was ticketed 1 mile from our house ( at a "drunkcheck" ) for not having her license on her. The Round Lake Park, Illinois cop was to lazy and wanted his quota so he didn't run her in LEADS (Database) or call it in.
I saw the light. One thing to check for drunk drivers. Another completely to work for the budget.
Yes I wasn't a cop. But I stood next to them the whole time, an oh what I saw and Heard. ( I really should write a book )
Please Apple Keep this App. Like someone who is drunk will remember to check this app while driving or update it for the rest of us.

So did you opt-in that the government / law enforcement gets the tracking data of your phone (smart-phone,dumb-phone,whatever-phone) .... well does not really matter because they don't care if you opted in or not, they just store it on THEIR server (which is quite different than having it on my phone and my laptop with only me having access ... well its still stored on the government server)
It's not the same issue. This is a problem with people close to you, be it a spouse, boyfriend, relative, or for that matter a cop lifting information from your phone.
Personally, I encrypt, I restrict access. So this isn't a problem for me, but that doesn't mean that I don't see the major problem with it.

people are complaining about data usage....how much time do you spend at home vs. on the go? i have unlimited so doesn't matter to me. I also, don't own cd's/dvds/blu rays and don't even own a dvd player. physical media is slowing dying. I've been waiting for something like this forever. For someone like you, you are eventually going to have to adopt or live in old age technology.

When the time comes when its obvious physical media is actually dead, internet connectivity sure will be more reliable at that point. Also, I'm assuming you have AT&T. In case you didn't know AT&T is already sending out messages to people with abnormally high data usage...even to people on unlimited plans saying stop it or we will change your plan to one our current higher end plans....i.e. 4GB. So until, cellular data is stable, reliable and the carriers do NOT want to gouge the customer on data....I want my local storage. One more point, physical media is one thing and local storage in terms of what we're discussing is not exactly the same thing. You're talking about CDs, blu rays and such. I'm talking about digital storage of .mp3/.aac/.mp4 and such. Not exactly the same.

NI am, however, starting to see why they allowed a sneak preview of iTV. Look how many of us are saying "I can't wait for iTV!" now that we've had some time to experiment with iTunes movie downloads!

Well for a company that's almost bankrupt I guess this was a worthwhile event for them. Now Creative can continue to make "adapted copies" of the iPod and lose money all over again.
Judging by their past business practices it's only a matter of time before they teeter on the edge of insolvency then I guess they'll have to come up with another reason to sue Apple all over again. what was apple a few years ago its only cause of ipods and reacently a lot of folk taking a keen eye in a comptuer system that can dual boot osx and windows sorry aint read all replys to this 100 million is not pocket change but it sure as hell aint as bad as it could have been thats my opinion on it at least
