The only way i'd give up my Treo for an "iPhone" is if it is a true "smart phone". That means PDA functionality. It's got to do everything my Treo does. If it's simply another phone with iTunes on it then it's not worth switching, at least in my opinion.

One thing I noted on the old page 2 thread was the possibility of a REAL Photo iPod - more like my Epson P-4000. It could double as a video player for the new "higher res" iTunes video downloads.

But back to the photo crowd. Wouldn't it be sweet to have a larger Photo iPod that was integrated into Aperture ...

    1. High speed internal CF and SD card inputs in this larger case

    2. Full support for RAW and RAW zooming

    3. Under a pound / 450 g in weight

    4. Large, bright 640 x 480 screen

    5. Killer feature: Aperture keyword / ranking / stacking functions on the iPod!!

You're on the road shooting, and traveling light. During breaks you upload your CF/SD cards to the new "Aperture.iPod". When you're sitting in a cafe, back at your hotel, or taking a train home you whip out the Aperture.iPod and using the Keywords.plist you uploaded from Aperture before you left you start Stacking, key-wording, and ranking images.

Next day you head to your studio, upload the new images from the Aperture.iPod to your MP 3Ghz (w/16 GB RAM and 3 TB of HDs!), and the first pass of your sorting is already done!

Aperture is SUPPOSED to be about meshing cool software with Apple hardware to make the professional (and dedicated amateur) photographer's life easier. I'm 99% sure this press conference will be about how Aperture and Apple hardware let's you focus on creative shooting, not IT issues.

"Shooting To Wound" is purely a product of television, movies, and video games. In real situations where gunfire is exchanged, milliseconds count, and center mass until the target is down is the ONLY reality.

Samsung is starting to be less and less innovative, they really are setting down at the drawing board , scratching their heads trying to come up with a design and then....." bing!!! their iphone mail alert just popped off and there is their next cell design!!

Samsung doesn't innovate on pretty case designs, and never has. They innovate on the stuff you can't see. You know, the stuff that gives function to those otherwise empty shells?

Useless to me if it is just for iTunes purchases. Please focus on more important things, Apple.

Given iTunes is the world's biggest music store, I think their new service will be quite useful to a lot of people. It's not difficult to imagine the kinds of people who would benefit from having their iTunes purchases backed up to the cloud automatically.

I just hope Steve Jobs doesn't wake up this morning and realise his new idea is useless to caspersoong and kill the project. :(

    Don't drink and drive.

agree,.. but what about all of the other forms of dangerous/distracted driving? Cell phone, texting, eating, speeding, etc etc... shouldn't they all be punished similarly? why has DUI become 1000x worse than everything else?

I'm simultaneously amused and saddened by the number of people who believe that drunk driving is a constitutionally protected right.
Hope you never have to see the results of the 'patriots' who would have a use for this and then kill innocent people.
This app enables murder. Rationalize all you want.

Nobody said that drunk driving was a constitutionally protected right. The ability to tell someone how to drive drunk is a protected right. It may not be one that you agree with but taking away that right would be a slippery slope of banning speech that people could find potentially dangerous.

And guess what -- Safari enables you to learn how to do all sorts of things that can lead to murder. You know what, I suggest you stop using your web browser right now -- you're in danger of becoming a murderer!

When will the iPhone rumors end? Can't you people see it won't happen?

Then I'll be the first to laugh in your face as I gloat everywhere you post.

(iono how serious you were) Unlike the stupid G5 PB rumors, the fact that cellphone chips, etc. can fit into something as thin as a RAZR and couple that with how thin a nano is, it's going to happen sooner than you'd think.

It looks descriptive to you because there is an App Store for your Mac and there is an App Store for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. If Apple hadn't invented the term "App Store" and used it for its super successful site, you would never have heard the term, and you wouldn't know what it means.

Uh!? Anytime someone tells me there is a YYYY store, my first reaction is that it is a store that sells YYYY's. It is no different with an app store.

What would one buy at a record store?
What would one buy at a grocery store?
What would one buy at a paint store?
What would one buy at an app store?

The problem with stolen Apple products would be no Applecare.

    Incorrect.

Even with a police report, the AppleCare is still valid for liability reasons. At least this is my experience working at a University where there have been thefts in the past.

What about 1080p support when the iMac is used as a monitor? I use a Kanex XD to watch Blu-ray movies on my 2009 iMac but it is limited to 720p. "This is due to limitation of the iMac 27" as a display which accepts only 1280x720(720p) or 2560x960 resolution base on the display EDID," the product's official site explains. "If and when the iMac 27" accepts a 1920x1080(1080p) resolution the Kanex XD will be able to output at 1080p."

This is based on a 1-hr episode of Lost is about 200MB.
You're assuming that the resolution (and thus bitrate) will remain the same. I hope this isn't the case since 320x240 is fine for TV, but for movies I'd like at least 720x480 (DVD quality) or 1280x720 (720p) which means 4-9x as many bits.

You get some advantage from the codec, so a 4x file can only be 2x as big, but pretty soon you're talking about gigs of data.

Those are two different arguments of the same coin and one can infer a lot by the attitude of what is said.
The point is that MisterMe said nothing that your response would have fit. You can infer all you want, but it's very clear that MisterMe was talking about the market share myth, and was not inferring that Macs are immune to malware.

    Just FYI...

File size wouldn't affect performance at all, as long as you're copying between locations on the same drive. The "file" that you see in the GUI is actually a link to a location on disk where your data is; all the OS has to move is the link, which is very tiny.

Thanks for clarifying that for me! I don't like doing things that I'm not sure about. As I said, my being unsure stemmed from windows that would sometimes come up in older versions of Photoshop, when closing, that mentioned clipboard sizes being too large. Or something along those lines. Again, thanks.

And that is precisely why people who have concealed weapon permits are trained in the legal ramifications of carrying a firearm in the public arena. We don't carry firearms to "save the day". We carry firearms to save our lives. Legally, I cannot get involved in a shooting that doesn't directly involve me.. I have no idea what is going on and could just as easily be shooting an undercover cop as a miscreant.

I'm not a gun control advocate. I own a gun. But I laugh at the absurd notion of being a hero when threatened. These glorified stories of what would have happened in situation X if someone had had a gun are laughable. It doesn't work like that.

Happens about 2,000,000 times a year. Check the FBI stats if you don't believe me. You don't hear much about that because (A) our media doesn't like to report "good" shootings, and (B) about 97% of the time no shooting is required, as the criminal gets the idea quick and stops threatening innocents in a hurry.

And most of the time when you hear that in situation X, if only someone had a had a gun...

When that right to life guy walked into the church and shot up the congregation, people said if the church goers had carried guns for instance. No way. He opened fire without warning.

Or take the incident in Tucson with the congress woman. No one would have stopped that with a gun either. It doesn't work like that. Yes you may stop a crime but it is usually a criminal who never intends to actually kill. If someone intends to kill or doesn't care about killing, then forget it.

The bottleneck is internet speed. Until the world has South Korean-esque internet speeds, physical media isn't going anywhere.
Well he was talking about things happening in the Future. 2016 is a long time from now especially in the tech world. Quite possible for internet speeds to catch up.

What kind of media do you expect that "cloud" to store data with? Your statement delves into the realm of privacy concern.
Cloud storage already exists. Look at dropbox, amazon, wuala, Carbonite. Lots of stuff which can handle user files and media already. Again, the person I quoted was talking about things in 2016, so quite possible for things to change by then.
Also look at services like Netflix and itunes. They seem to be handling "cloud" based streaming just fine. Even right now in 2011 you can watch an HD movie by just streaming it to your device rather than using a physical disk. Who knows what can happen in 5 years in the tech industry.

USB 3 will likely become more popular. I hope that doesn't happen. I'd rather have PCI-E speeds than USB speeds.

Perhaps TB will go differently than FW did. Apple has a more significant market share now than they did when FW was introduced. Plus, they're being smart by letting Intel take the lead in promoting TB.

What will make or break TB is peripheral support, and real world performance. Can USB3 keep up with a current SSD, even? If performance is notably degraded with USB3 and the ports both exist on the computer, and the peripherals are the same cost ... TB should do fine.

Personally I'd like to see USB stop at v2. Keep it for a while like we did PS/2 ports for keyboards & mice, but let's roll out modern technology when we can. USB3 hasn't gotten much of a foothold in the two years since it was released, so let's ditch it while we can and go with something much better.

I really don't think it is necessary to call me or any member of my family "pathetic." There's nothing wrong with manipulating the system to your advantage, if you do it for a valid purpose (such as teaching a crappy driver a lesson).

    -Don

It's definitely unethical, but maybe someday someone will do it for a valid purpose and teach you a lesson.

I think he was referring to the older versions of Office that had weird MDI interfaces for Word and Excel, so that it only displayed one document at a time, unless you explicitly forced two separate instances of the application to run at the same time.

Actually there is still annoyances with that. While you can run two instances of Excel they still use a weird MDI interface if you are just double clicking to open files. A nightmare if you have dual monitors, and still not fixed in Office 2010.
